Unusual Things to do in Greece
Written by Anna James | Posted in General Updated 20-May

unusual things doTo take a holiday in Greece, what a wonderful historic place to travel to. The heritage and culture of Greece dates back thousands of years and is exciting to be a part of. There is no question that if you travel to Greece you have to go to the Acropolis and the Parthenon. What Greek holiday would be complete if you didn’t? The best thing to do when in Greece is to ask the locals, they would love to tell you some of the not so touristy things to do. Let’s take a look at some of the different and unusual things to do in Greece.

How about visiting the Tactual museum? This is one of only five in the whole world and it is specially designed for the blind and all people with visual problems. They provide masks to those with vision so you can experience the full effect of what they have to offer. Make sure you wash your hands as this is a touch only zone. Yet it’s quite an amazing way to use your senses and discover something new. Or you can choose to go to Marathon Lake.

Money Saving Tip #6
Use Travelex.com to get the best rates on your currency (better than the Post Office!).

This lake is one of the three main water resources of Athens. It’s a huge manmade lake yet a wonderful spot to enjoy the beauty and the scenery. There is a huge dam on one side. There is a cafeteria above the lake that adds to the great views this location offers. There is also the opportunity to visit the quiet little villages and spend some time away from all the hustle and bustle.

How about a lovely mountain bike ride around Mount Parnitha. It is one of the few mountains that surround the whole capital. On top of the mountain there is a hotel and a casino. Yet spend the day in nature riding the mountainside and take in the breathtaking view of the capital. How about some paintball? There is not that many people that can say they played paintball in Greece. Paintball in Greece is relatively new and they have some wonderful fields set up on the outskirts of Athens. They host different events and games there and would be exciting to partake in.

Now depending on the time of year that you go there are different events to partake in. If you happen to be in Greece through Easter I suggest you head to Kalymnos in the Dodecannese Islands for Easter. Keep in mind Easter in Greece is one of the most religious holidays, along with Christmas, and there are many events held to celebrate. If you get a chance when here check out the different funerals on the Friday before Easter Sunday.

MYKONOS ISLAND - Greece [HD]

This is quite the thing to see. They host a competition of which funeral bearer is the prettiest, I am not kidding. Each church has their own competitor and they all meet down at the harbor to do the judging. It’s quite a sight, and so pretty and is actually filled with a lot of emotion for the day it represents. If you stay till the Saturday, when Christ arises from the dead, the people in Kalymnos blow up dynamite, and that gets things rocking.

Money Saving Tip #2
Book your hotel through Booking.com and get the lowest rate for your hotel..guaranteed!

I am sure some of the above ideas will not be listed by a travel agent; unless they have been there then I am sure they would. It’s also encouraged to take the time to do the touristy things as one can’t go to Greece and not. But if you want some unusual things to do you may want to try a few. Imagine the stories you can come home with.
