Things to do in Santorini
Written by Anna James | Posted in Blog Updated 23-Feb

santoriniA popular destination for Greece holidays is Santorini island. Located in between the islands of los and Anafi, lies Santorini, the last of the Cylades islands to the South. Also known as Thira, this volcanic island is one of the most popular islands of Greece, for its beautiful beaches, it's interesting villages, its historical places and even its myth of being connected to the Lost City of Atlantis - as made popular by the books "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" and "The Mysterious Island" by Jules Verne. Read this guide to Santorini to learn why this island is such a popular destination in Greece, even often visited by celebrities.

Altogether, there are thirteen villages or towns which are often visited by tourists in Santorini. Oia is known to grant tourists view to the most magnificent sunsets in all of Santorini island. Fira, on the other hand is a charming sight of a town perched on a cliff. The villages and small towns on Santorini island are popular for its bars and Greek fish taverns, delicious enough to enhance your Greece holidays.  Other villages or small towns worth mentioning are the Firostefani, Imerovigli, Akrotiri and Megalochori.

The beaches on Santorini island looks untouched and are naturally beautiful. However, most public beaches do not have showers or a place to change, so be prepared. The seaside village of Kamari and Perissa features black beaches that everyone should experience to believe. The Red Beach near Akrotiri is worth a visit, although it takes a bit of effort to get there. It is often crowded, and if you are bringing along children, keep in mind that there are topless women sunbathing there. If you'd like to take a walk at the white sandy beach, you'll need to get a boat from Akrotiri or the Red Beach as it is only accessible by the sea. The red, black and white beaches are among the main attractions of wonderful Greece holidays.
