| Things to do in Kefalonia |
| Written by Anna James | Posted in Blog Updated 20-May | ||||||||||||||||
It might seem like a trivial thing to do during your Greece holidays, but you should try to take an evening stroll in Argostoli, the capital city of Kefalonia. The locals call this activity as volta, which means to take a walk, and it is a popular pastime among the locals as well. Money Saving Tip #6 Use Travelex.com to get the best rates on your currency (better than the Post Office!). It is actually quite a beautiful sight to see during your evening stroll, as the streets, the sidewalks, the beaches and the town are usually full with people taking a walk, children playing and tourists enjoying the view as the sky turns orange. Typical of all Greece holidays, your Kefalonia experience will not be completed until you experience one of its beautiful beaches. The most renowned beach in Kefalonia is the Myrtos Bay and it is often crowded. For families with children, Poros Beach located southeast of Argostoli is much better as the water is shallow. If you fancy boat rides and red sand beach, head over to the Western side of Kefalonia where the Lepada beach is at. It could be quite a nuisance to get there as you need to go down slopes. A unique and interesting activity to experience is the sea kayaking in Kefalonia at Agios Kiriaki Bay. It could be really tiring to paddle the kayak, but it will enhance your Greece holidays exploring sea caves or even spotting rare species of Mediterranean monk seals swimming by. Just like any other Greek holidays experience, Kefalonia is rich with history as well. Take a trip to the hillside Venetian castle of St George south of Argostoli, or visit the creepy tombs of Mazarakata located between the villages of Metaxata and Lakythra. You might also want to visit the Cyclopean Walls near Sami in Kefalonia as it is believed to be built by the mythical Cyclops giants. Money Saving Tip #2 Book your hotel through Booking.com and get the lowest rate for your hotel..guaranteed! There are so many things to do, and so many sights to see on Kefalonia. From climbing Mount Ainos to watching loggerhead turtles hatch, from the delightful seafood to taking a walk on the German bridge. Just don't forget your sun block, and your Greece Holidays in Kefalonia should be wonderful.
