1. Dine where the locals do: One of the best ways to cut costs is to carefully choose where you dine. Stay away from tourist hotspots. Though they look inviting, they will end up costing you an arm and a leg.
Money Saving Tip #6
Use Travelex.com to get the best rates on your currency (better than the Post Office!). Instead, find out where the locals eat and drink and follow suit. These places are often much less expensive than tourists spots. Travel a few miles inland to get the best deals. 2. Know what to order: You probably won’t want to travel to Greece and not order seafood. However, choose your fare wisely if you are looking to minimize costs. Try the squid, marides, mydia and goupes. These are all delicious choices but are cheaper than more expensive seafood options. 3. Forgo Bottled Wine: Never order the bottled wine when dining in restaurants. Instead, order the “open wine.” This is simply a tin jug of wine made locally. It’s less inexpensive than bottled wine. 4. Skip the rental car: If you don’t have to, forgo renting a car during your Greece holiday. Take the bus or a taxi. Ad hoc car rentals are an option as well. They allow for rentals as needed. 5. Travel during the off-season: Visit the country during the off-season. Stay away from Greece during July and August and Easter. It’s more expensive during this time of the year. You will secure the best deals from mid-September to the end of October. A packaged Greece holiday will often provide you with the best bargains. 6. Rent a room with a kitchenette: Book hotels with a kitchenette if possible. If not, opt for one with at least a refrigerator. If you are fortunate enough to get a room with a kitchenette, you will be able to cook many of your meals, saving you a ton of money in the process. If you are unable to find or afford a room or apartment with a kitchenette, but are able to secure one with a refrigerator, you can at least stock up on beverages, wine and beer. This can save you a bit of money as well.
Money Saving Tip #2
Book your hotel through Booking.com and get the lowest rate for your hotel..guaranteed! 7. Keep a level head: I know that this can be difficult to do. Greece is a beautiful country with plenty of things to do and lots of things to buy. However, stay level-headed, create a budget and stick to it. Once you re-enter the real world, you’ll be glad that you did. ![]()
